We are currently in the information age, and we are being taken over by technology at an unprecedented rate never seen before in human history.
When I came to the Netherlands for my master study in embedded systems, I struggled a lot with the coursework. I came with a background in electrical engineering, and my exposure to software engineering was in general less compared to a Dutch student. The embedded systems courses at TU Delft required a certain level of experience with software which I thoroughly lacked. I thought I knew coding when I first started my master, but then I realized that I barely scratched the surface. I realized that the root cause was that in most universities in India, electrical engineering degrees purely focused only on power systems, circuit theory and power electronics. However, as we progress, our power grids are getting digitized, but that is not reflected in the coursework that is being taught at the universities of India. So, I decided to give a talk on the necessity of learning software engineering for students with EE backgrounds. The slides of the talk to be given can be found here.
