One of the best books that I recently read was a book called “Deep Work” by Cal Newport, a computer science professor with a degree from MIT. In this age of social media networking tools, we have become increasingly distracted with shortening attention spans. Our ability to concentrate is one of the greatest tools of the human mind and it is fast eroding. This book provides excellent insights, trips and techniques on how we can gain our ability to work “deep” in this information era. I have incorporated some of the techniques in this book and I have already seen gains in productivity in a few weeks time practicing the techniques in this book. I wanted to make a short summary, but there were so many insights and strategies that I could not summarize it in a few pages. I tried using a format of slides to take my notes, and the summary of the most important ideas I found interesting came to around 50 slides!
I usually take self help/productivity books with a grain of salt but this one truly has great insights that can help you eliminate the noise in your life and focus on the truly important. You can find my book notes here.
